Eventually, it is highly probably the physical archive built by Katie Shilton back in 2001 will be digitized and will have an online finding aid. Though the finding aid, researchers will be able to locate and view digitized versions of photos and documents stored in the archive.

If this comes to pass, then a number of issues and questions will arise, and the answers will be arrived at either explicitly or implicitly. Here are some of the questions that I can think of right off hand.

1. Who should be in charge of such an effort and who should do the work?

2. Should volunteers play a major role, or should the project be managed and primarily staffed by professionals?

3. If the project is to be managed and primarily staffed by professionals,
then these three related questions come to mind:

    a) Where will the funds come from to pay these professionals?

    b) Will the person (or persons) who provides the funding be in charge of the project and the archive?

    c) Will the funds be given on a one-time basis, or will there be sufficient funds to set up
an endowment to pay for archive updates on an on-going basis?

Note: the funding to cover the project worked on by Katie Shilton was provided by one family, and the funding was given on a one-time basis.
